First of all, I am 82 years old. I met Mr. Romeo in Co-op City about a year ago. I’m part of JASA which is comprise mostly of seniors. I attended his chess program in November of last year and haven’t stop yet. I’m in his program right now. He his very patient with me and has help me to regain the feeling to be more active and outgoing. What I love the most about him us that he always checking on me to see how I am doing. Its not just about him teaching chess with you, it’s about the relationship after he do so. I was impressed when he supported us and did the senior walk with us in Co-op City last week.

The reason why I’m just giving them 4 stars because we just join there program in the middle of the summer. Almost four months has gone by and so far so good. I see a big change in our twins after two weeks. The fighting among each other as stop and they are paying more attention to their duties at school and home. Update in two months. Thank you for the extra help! God has sent us a solider!

I met this gentlemen at the Northeast Y.M.C.A. back in June while with my daughter and grandchildren. My grandson went to the table where he was teaching chess to other kids. He didn’t turn my grandchild away, instead he took his time to teach him with the other kids. He made by grandson feel comfortable and got his full attention, it surprised me because my grandson is hyper. I ask him if he worked here and he said no, he said he comes here with his H.S. students to work out and play chess with a couple of them to get their mind right. He said while he’s doing that if a child wants to come in learn he won’t turned them away. He said when it comes to chess, you rarely see a child that shows interest unless other children are playing. For him to turn them away , he might not get another chance to teach that child or that child might not want to get engaged in anything else because with happened to him the last time. I said that it seems like that kids gravitate towards you why don’t you teach chess here. He reply and said, that I wasn’t the first to ask that question and people went to the front desk to inquire about it, and then he left it alone. We need young men like himself to mentor and be role models that our children can follow, especially in big recreational facilities like the Y.M.C.A. where this is no programs that can health the youth mentally. All I can say. is keep doing what you doing, your well appreciated! God continue to bless you!

I’ve been a friend of Romeo & his family for many years! He has always been a strong, intelligent, sensitive & caring person! So it comes as no surprise that he’s taken his talents to helping the youth and the community! Keep up the good work 👏🏽

Mr Romeo is consistent in his care for the community as a whole. I met him when I was on a walk with my grandson and he invited us to get a lesson free and provided snack. I later went to the library where to my delight he was hosting a multigenerational chess workshop, again free of charge with giveaways. Mr Romeo has a pulse on every going on in our community. He reaches out through text disseminating events info with respect and blessing and never fail to reach out in all season and all matters concerning the community from pantry, to christmas, to making sure things in our neighborhood are affordable , but also that we are treated with well deserved respect. Thank you Sir for your consistent commitment. This type of commitment would serve us well in the political arena if you should ever consider such a move. Our community would more than benefit. Continued blessing and strengh Sir
